What do you want to be when you grow up?
Had you asked me that question in elementary school, the answer would have been "a pirate". Not only did I love my LEGO pirate ship my dad gave me for my birthday one year but this adventurous and admittedly romanticized thought of exploring wide, unknown waters and deserted islands in the Caribbean seemed quite intriguing.
Approximately 15 years later (after actually having crossed the Atlantic), I am afraid I am even further away from realistically answering that question than my 8-year old self was. The truth is, I believe that neither my dream job nor my dream company even exist yet. I could be wrong. But having grown up in an increasingly fast-paced and digitally connected world, I can only imagine that I will take on at least 15-20 different roles throughout my professional career.
Surely, I have a variety of interests, ranging from sports and tech to media, entertainment, and gender equality advocacy but at the end of the day what really matters is whether I'll be able to have an impact.
In every challenge that is presented to me I see an opportunity for growth and I love pushing the envelope. Being able to constantly learn and absorb new knowledge quickly while leaving my comfort zone allows me not only to realize my full potential but to be fully engaged and excited about whatever it is I am tackling at the time.
While my dream of becoming a pirate may be in the past, just like Captain Jack Sparrow I know I am and always will be a go-getter. And that is something I am proud of.
